strategies / techniques for differentiation of familiar/strange

How can in the case of a self-ethnography the methodical important (artificial) allienation of the researcher to his "object" (which is his former self)  beeing constructed/assured? What are practices to keep the distance and what are practices to emerge with the former self.
Is in this case the contruction of the object of the ethnography - in your case as a 'lerner" - of importance?
